Abraham Adesanya Poly Convocates 5,363

Ogun state-owned Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo last Thursday held its Second Convocation and Award Ceremony which produced 5,363 graduates.

The event which took place at the Polytechnic Main Auditorium was combined for graduates from 2005 to 2015, edutorial.ng learnt.

According to the graduation breakdown gathered by edutorial.ng, 3,543 students were from full time and 1,820 students made the part-time list in both the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) Levels.

During her opening speech, the rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. (Mrs.) Jumoke Bukonla Bilesanmi-Awoderu gave a summary of the development in school since her assumption of office in 2014.

Recall that Prof. Bilesanmi-Awoderu was appointed as the third and first female Rector of AAPOLY, inaugurated in July 2014. Before her appointment, she was a staff of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye serving as Dean of a Faculty.

The Professor of Education revealed that staff are not being owed any salary despite the little funds generated by the institution.

She maintained that staff welfare is essential and as such, the management would always prioritize it.

“The administration has continued to pursue a vigorous staff development programme. In fact, staff welfare is a matter of top priority for the administration and it will continue to be given due attention and pride of place.

“Staff salaries are regularly paid despite the Polytechnic’s meagre funds and limited resources and I am happy to report that to date we do not owe staff salaries,” Prof. Bilesanmi-Awoderu said.

The Ijebu-born rector added that some members of staff have been sponsored to seminars and also mandated to register with professional associations.

“Some staff have been graciously sponsored to attend seminars/workshops and registrations with relevant professional association had also been financed,” she added.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Education, Mrs Modupe Mujota gave commendations to the staff for supporting the Rector in her vision and good agenda.

The Commissioner also urged all graduating students to be a good example and to also keep the flag flying as they have learnt in school.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony were Senator Adegbenga Kaka, Hon. Adegoke Adekunle, Senator Biyi Durojaye, Alhaji Moyeed amongst others.
