A total of 1051 students, comprising 931 Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and 120 Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) candidates, matriculated at Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, Lagos on Thursday.
Speaking at the 2019/2020 Matriculation Ceremony of the college, the Provost, Dr Wahab Azeez, urged the Matriculants to exhibit disciplined, loyal and honest character at all times during their stay in the college.
“Energy wasted in pursuit of unlawful gains or destructive union activities is tantamount to misplaced priorities and contribute to lowering of the standard of education.
“I urge all of you to combine both academic and moral excellence during years of studentship in the college.
“Refrain from all acts which are contrary to rules and regulations of the college in order not to jeopardise the realisation of your ambitions; these unsavoury acts include examination misconduct, admission fraud, cultism and so on,” Azeez said.
He said that the college management was working hard to provide the students with better academic, social and recreational facilities that would make them excel in their present and future tasks.
“I implore you to shun secret societies and cultism so that your goals and expectations will not be cut short.
“Every student should be security conscious and also serve as security watchdog for the college,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Odekilekun Adedeji, President, Student Union Government of the college, urged the students to foster unity and cordial relationship amongst other students and avoids all forms of oppression and intimidation.
Adedeji said that the students should have it in their minds that they would not only learn academics but build a character that would be guided by rules and regulations of the college.
