FG Shifts Ground, Agrees To Pay Lecturers Via Old Platforms

There are hopes Friday night that the ongoing strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)   may soon be called off as the Federal Government agrees to use the old payment platform to pay lecturers’ withheld salaries.

The union made this known on its official Twitter handle on Friday night, adding that the government has agreed to drop the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System   (IPPIS)  for now in paying the lecturers’ outstanding salaries and continue with the test on the union’s alternative University Transparency and Accountability Solution  (UTAS).

The Federal Government also offered N15bn in addition to the N20bn revitalisation money earlier pledged to the union.

The union said it would consult with its council and get back to the government on whether the strike would be suspended or not.
