TRCN Registration Compulsory ― NUT President Tells Teachers

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Michael Olukoya, on Wednesday, said that the certification by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is compulsory for its members.

He explained that the registration would entrench professionalism in the teaching profession, saying anyone who fails to participate in the nationwide registration would be deleted or sack from the service.

Olukoya said this while addressing the press at the NUT secretariat, Abeokuta, that it’s members should not honour any call by some labour leaders rejecting the exercise.

He said, “I was told some people are going round. Don’t allow anybody in the name of cheap popularity to ask you to abstain from this registration. TRCN is an Act of the parliament; it’s the law in this country.

“The stand of the present government is that anybody that is not known or registered by this body would not be allowed to teach. I want to charge the leadership, head teachers and principals and all the agencies of education to ensure that our members do not become victims of any avoidable circumstance.

“Anybody who is a teacher and does not seize the opportunity of this window to register stands sacked or deviated from the teaching service. The Federal Government, through the Minister of Education, has spoken and time bound has been given to the entire teachers to do the needful.”

He used the opportunity to express the goodwill of the Union to the governor of the state

Governor Ibikunle Amosun for pardoning the remaining three teachers who were part of the 34 dismissed and suspended teachers in the state.

The president urged the Amosun administration to ensure that teachers in the state are not left out in the TRCN registration.
