Change of Baton In Usmanu Danfodiyo Scholars’ Forum

The inaugural executives of UDUS Scholars’ Forum (USF) of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) has handed over executive positions to newly appointed members of the forum at the first ever physical colloquium held on Sunday, January 08, 2023 at Sokoto research center auditorium in UDUS main campus.

USF is a student-led union that encompasses UDUS students with not less than second-class upper CGPA across all faculties. USF was established to acquaint UDUS scholars with national and international opportunities – scholarship, fellowship, internship, volunteers, etcetera. The union had priorly called for nomination of members for any position of their choice before the colloquium. The USF executive has seven administrator positions, which are: Convener, Co-Convener, General secretary, Publicity secretary, Organizing secretary, Social Media Manager I and II.

The name of the newly appointed executives were unveiled by one of the USF’s staff advicers Dr. Attair Mainiyo after the speaker’s presentation at the colloquium. The new Convener is Abdulganiyy Abdulrahman Akanbi, a 300 level student of Islamic Studies; Co-Convener is Abdulkadir Muhammad, a 400 level student of Forestry; General Secretary is Ajibike Abdulbasit Abiodun, a 300 level student of Agriculture; Organizing Secretary is Adewale Sefiu Damilare, a 300 level student of Chemistry; Publicity Secretary is John Rose, a 300 level of faculty of Agriculture; Social Media Manager 1 is Ahmad Jibril, a 300 level student from Economics; and Social Media Manager 2 is Fahidat Qamarudeen 300 student of Pharmacy.

When speaking with PEN PRESS, the newly appointed Convener, Abdulganiyy Abdulrahman Akanbi, thanked God for making him the convener of USF. “I felt delighted to be the one to lead USF, a biggest intellectual forum in UDUS, I thank the outgoing excos for their commitments, integration and services towards the development of the forum,” he said.

Akanbi added that, “I will do my best to follow the legacy of my predecessor, build on it, work on the challenges faced by the previous administration. It will be a teamwork between me and other executive board members likewise all scholars will be carry along.” He motivated other scholars to keep pushing it, applying for opportunities, attending webinars, learning, relearning and shouldn’t get tired.

The outgoing USF general secretary, Scholar Ahmad Musa, a final year student of Economics congratulated the new executives and advised them to prepare ahead for the battle. “They should do well to serve as responsible and responsive leaders, discharge their duties properly and make sure the goal is continuously pursued,” he noted.

Also, the former Convener, Muhammad Adeyemi congratulated the installed executives and wished them outstanding successes in their various endeavors. He said that there are numerous challenges that they will have to overcome.

“Notwithstanding, the challenge is real, they have to beat and fulfil the mantras of leadership that have been given to them. I am hoping that the new Convener will exemplify that true leadership and everyone across UDUS that wants to achieve academically and grow financially in their professional activities will benefit from his leadership, he said.
