
The Board of Regents (BOR), the apex decision-making body of Covenant University, has unveiled the University’s new academic and operational leadership for the 2020/2021 Academic Session. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abiodun H. Adebayo, communicated the pronouncement of the Chairman of the BOR and Chancellor of the University, Dr David O. Oyedepo, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.
Professor Adebayo charged the team with injecting new ideas into the University’s operational system, bringing innovativeness to bear on the assignment, and being ingenious in the task ahead of them.
He advised the team to see their appointment as a privilege to serve, noting that the University’s leadership framework had moved from the foundational to the visionary phase of existence. He said that there was the need to consolidate on the University’s past leadership’s outstanding work.
Professor Adebayo stated that Covenant was fortunate to be blessed with a visionary platform coupled with a dynamic BOR. He added that it had become inevitable to attain some level of perfection towards the speedy realisation of the University’s short-term vision.
The Vice-Chancellor appreciated all outgoing Heads of Departments, Directors and Heads of Strategic Units for their doggedness, commitment, and steadfastness in driving Covenant’s mandate in the last two academic sessions. He urged them to keep contributing towards making the institution the best that it was meant to be.
The excellent work done in the various Colleges of the University, by current Deans earned them an extended mandate to continue their assignment. To this end, Professor Temidayo Omotosho will remain the Dean, College of Science and Technology (CST); Professor Uwaloma Uwuigbe, Dean College of Management and Social Sciences (CMSS), Professor Olujide Adekeye, Dean College of Leadership Development Studies (CLDS), Professor David Omole, Dean College of Engineering (COE), while Professor Conrad Omonhinmin remains the Dean, Students’ Affairs.
Some of the new faces in the new leadership structure include Professor Akan Williams as the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies. Dr. Mercy Iroaganachi will serve as the Acting Director, Centre of Learning Resources (CLR), while in a bid to consolidate on the research drive and industry partnership of the University, Professor David Olukanni has been appointed to head the Covenant University Centre for Instrumentation and Research Facilities (CUCIRF). Dr Olaleke Ogunnaike replaced Dr Wunmi Olokoyo as the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CEDS).
Other appointees were: Head, Department of Languages and General Studies, Professor Innocent Chiluwa; Head, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Professor Daniel Gberevbie; Head, Department of Psychology, Dr Sussan Adeusi; Head, Department of Accounting, Professor Francis Iyoha; Head, Department of Banking and Finance, Dr Abiola Babajide; Head, Department of Business Management, Dr Anthonia Adeniji; Head, Department of Economics, Professor Evans Osabuohien; and Head, Department of Sociology, Dr Tayo George.
Also appointed Heads of Departments were Dr Kehinde Oyesomi (Department of Mass Communication); Professor Vincent Efeovbokhan (Department of Chemical Engineering); Professor Emmanuel Adetiba (Department of Electrical and Information Engineering); Professor Israel Afolabi (Department of Biochemistry); Professor Olabosipo Fagbenle (Department of Building Technology); Dr Emmanuel Okoro (Department of Petroleum Engineering); and Dr Pearl Opoko (Department of Architecture).
Others included Dr Olufunke Oladipupo (Department of Computer and Information Sciences); Professor Mayowa Ajibola (Department of Estate Management); Professor Joseph Olugbuyiro (Department of Chemistry); and Dr Mojisola Usikalu (Department of Physics), Professor A. Iyase (Department of Mathematics), Professor Solomon Oranusi (Department of Biological Sciences), Dr. Anthony Ede (Department of Civil Engineering), Professor Joshua Okeniyi (Department of Mechanical Engineering). Dr Adewale Adeyinka will serve as the Director of SIWES.
