Covenant University Emerges 3rd Position at Innovation Expo 2017

Covenant University has emerged 3rd position in the tertiary institutions’ category of the recently concluded maiden edition of Technology and Innovation Expo 2017, which took place in Abuja, Nigeria.

The University’s research products emerged third best among 640 products exhibited by 64 tertiary institutions across the federation, at the event organised by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, between Monday, April 3 and 7, 2017.

Covenant University was the only private university among the winners at the event. The University received a plaque and cash awards for its technological and innovative prowess at the event, which has the theme, “Science, Technology and Innovation for Nigeria’s Economic Diversification.”

In his remarks, the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, noted that the 2017 expo has shown that Nigeria is on the move to greatness and that Nigerians have shown that they are capable of inventions that could change the course of history.

“I commend the participants at this expo for showing the Nigerian spirit in them. Our heart will never depart from you because you are the future of Nigeria. We shall follow up on your inventions and mobilise the organised private sector to work together with you in the pursuit of the commercialization of your inventions,” he said.

He assured that his ministry would not rest until science, technology and innovation become the driving force in Nigeria’s effort to diversify her economy in order to stimulate sustainable development.

Among the research products exhibited by Covenant University were the digital podium, energy retention bags, animal feeds and road traffic shuttle among others.
