Kano Secures $100m World Bank Loan To Reform Education

Kano State Government has secured an intervention fund of over $100 million from the World Bank to address the near collapse and infrastructural deficit in its education sector.

The loan granted by the state government under the Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), a five-year project, is expected to enhance quality education, and a conducive environment for teaching and learning, as well as assist less-privileged families.

Before the loan was granted, research conducted by the World Bank on the state’s education sector indicated that about 52 per cent of education facilities in the state were in bad shape, a development that apparently hindered school enrolment.
