Most Private Varsities Not Well-Equipped As FCE (Technical) – Provost Boasts

The Provost, Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Dr. Wahab Azeez, has boasted that most of the private universities in the country are not as equipped as FCE (T).

Azeez said this during the 2020/2021 Nigeria Certificate In Education and Professional  Diploma In Education matriculation.

While reacting to the affiliation of the institution to the University of Benin, Edo State, he said the FCE (T) was capable of running a degree programme on its own.

He said, “We have presented it to the FG to allow colleges of education like us to be a university. Most private universities that the FG has registered do not have the facilities that we have here.”

He also lamented that students’ enrolment into the college this year was lower than that of last year.

“Talking about the number of the intakes, the first reason is that many of the admitted applicants will first of all look for university admission, it is when they are unable to secure such that they will now consider colleges of education. Admission is now getting very competitive as FG, State and private universities are springing up on a monthly basis. We have 21 colleges of education and many state colleges of education and we are all sourcing candidates from the same society.”

He enjoined the matriculating students to attend lectures regularly and punctually.

“It would be very appreciated if you can reciprocate the good gesture of the College by working very hard and diligently in order to contribute your quota to the development of our country as a citizen,” he said.

A total of 635 students were admitted for NCE and 92 students came in for PDE in various programmes.
