The leadership and members of National Association of Nigerian Students(NANS), South-West Zone led by Comrade Kappo Samuel Olawale join the rest of the world to celebrate Oluwatomilola Idris Mustapha and his formidable team on their outstanding feat at the just concluded Virtual Global Entrepreneurship Experience Challenge held in New Zealand.
NANS noted this in a statement signed by Comrade Olatunde Fanika, Director of Media and Publicity, noted that the lads have done well not only for themselves alone but also their respective families and the nation at large.
Amid the controversy raging ‘Hushpuppi’, a tagged cybercriminal from Nigeria who was apprehended for major cybercrime causing a big stain to the image of our dear country internationally, Idris Mustapha has gone ahead to show to the world that we are better than what they see and we can do more than what they imagine.
NANS said against all odds of COVID-19 pandemic and other evident setbacks, the young 400 level Biology student of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State has worked very hard to compete against over a thousand other individuals, 128 teams and 116 countries across the world to put us in the foremost line of winning.
Mustapha’s winning team whose idea was tagged “Blue Care” saw his team, the ENACTUS designed a portable bag with solar-powered blue light for treating babies suffering from jaundice.
According to the organisers, it was observed that 30% of infants from developing nations all over the world, died annually compared to 2% of infants death recorded in developed nations. Severe jaundice can also cause severe and irresistible brain damage, but the condition can be readily treated with blue light. This led to the development of ‘’Blue Care’’.
Based on “Blue Care” proposed system, the product main use is in hospitals but can also be used at homes.
Since 65% of Nigeria’s birth occurred at home, the ”Blue Care” product has the potential of alleviating the health challenges of vulnerable communities.
With such great contributions to the development of health technology for the world, this team has left the name of the University, Gateway State, Southwest Zone and the country at large on the world chart of greatness.
This is a prove that Nigerian Students are limitless in their innovative ability and can steadily compete globally if given proper enablement to breed their potentials.
The Government is therefore challenged to invest more in the educational sector so as to create a more enabling and empowering environment for productivity of youths.
NANS South West Zone laud the efforts of the management of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu Ode under the leadership of an educationist and mathematician, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu for their relentless efforts towards developing the entrepreneurial sector and vocational skills through proper investment in this academic endeavour.
The dividend for their efforts is being celebrated today in the great achievement that has brought the school global recognition and honour.
NANS charged all students across South West Geopolitical Zone and beyond to emulate the outstanding performance of Mustapha and his ENACTUS team.
