Two Edutorial Reporters Shortlisted For Campus Journalism Award

Muhammad Auwal Ibrahim and Ikulajolu Adesola Praise, both campus reporters and writers with the Edutorial, have been shortlisted for the 2020 edition of the Campus Journalism Award.

They were both shortlisted alongside 28 other finalists on March 8, 2020, across the country for the various categories of the award. This is contained in a full list released by Youths Digest on its website.

The shortlisted, are from Bayero University Kano, Usman Dan Fodio University, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, University of Lagos, The Polytechnic Ibadan, IBB University, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State among others who won over the screening committee for their excellent reports and insightful features.

According to the head of the screening committee of the annual campus journalism award, Alfred Olufemi, 266 entries were received from over 50 institutions.

 “The quality of the entries received shows that journalism in the students’ space has gone beyond what we used to have in the past. Students did excellent reporting, investigations and insightful features” he said.

The award is expected to hold on March 28, 2020, at Bolton White Hotel Abuja, Area 11, where 15 eventual winners of the awards out of the 30 finalists will be awarded after a final screening by the panel of judges.

The category of the awards includes Upcoming Writer, Entertainment Writer, Sports Writer, Reporter, Gender Equality Reporter, Broadcaster and Photo-journalist. Others are Pen Club, Author (Book), Social Media Influencer, Investigative Journalist, Features Writer, Editor, Print Magazine, and the grand award of Campus Journalist of the Year.

The theme for the 2020 CJA is, “Press Freedom: Catalyst for Good Governance”.

He also revealed that Mr Sunday Dare, Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports will be the keynote speaker at the event while the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu will be the Special Guest of Honour and Comrade Auwal Musa Rafsanjani, Executive Director of CISLAC will be the Chief Host.

He further added that ‘there is going to be a presentation of a book titled a ‘Musings of Young Minds: A collection of articles by campus journalists,” edited by Gidado Yushau Shuaib, the Editor of the Youths Digest.

Also, at the event, the winner of the campus investigative challenge sponsored by CISLAC will be announced.
