UDUS: MAN Resolves Election Results After Lecturer’s Intervention

Abdulrasheed Akere reports,

The Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN), Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) chapter has resolved the association’s election results after some lecturer’s intervention.

This information was contained in a circular released by the association dated Tuesday, November 21, 2023. The resolution came after the successful conduction of a peaceful election by the Electoral Committee (ELCOM) of the mathematics department.

“I hope this message finds you well. We would like to inform you of the results from the recent election held in our department on the 18th of November 2023. Initially, the ELCOM carefully exhibited their duties successfully in the election process. Also, agents of the contestants running for various posts all attest that the election was free, fair, and credible. The ELCOM later announced the list of the successful candidates for each post,” the circular reads in part.

It reads further, “However, On 21st November 2023. After some tense atmosphere in the department concerning the result of the recent election, the Head of the Department of Mathematics and other staff advisers decided that the candidates who initially ran for the position of President would now assume the roles of Vice President 1 and Vice President 2, respectively.”

“Consequently, the Vice President-elect will now be taking on the responsibilities of the President. We believe this decision will contribute to a well-rounded and effective leadership team for the Mathematics Department.”

“We appreciate your participation in the democratic process, and we look forward to the continued success and positive impact that our student leaders will bring to the department,” it concluded.

In an interview with Comrade Ishaq Abubakar Olaitan, the outgoing president of the association asserted that the circular was released by the association.

He said the election was peaceful but the resolution was because of the issue that emerged after the announcement of the results. “The defeated presidential aspirant was not satisfied with the result and wrote a petition letter to the department to cancel the whole election and redo it or count the invalid votes as valid which is against the electoral policy. That was why the HOD and some staff advisers interfered in the matter.”

“The former president-elect did not have any issue with the ELCOM and the department itself,” he clarified.
