YabaTech Holds 34th Convocation Ceremony

Yaba College of Technology commenced activities marking the 34th Convocation Ceremony of the institution with a Jumat Service on Friday.

The week-long ceremony is a combined convocation for the graduating class of 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 Academic Sessions, where 7, 554 students would be awarded Higher National and National Diploma of the institution.

While briefing the press earlier in the week, the Rector of the College, Engineer Obafemi Omokungbe highlighted some of the achievements recorded under his administration which include a fairly stable academic calendar in pursuit of acceptable academic standards despite the COVID-19 Pandemic which almost grounded activities globally.

Other achievements include the improvement on physical infrastructure in both the Epe and Yaba campuses of the College, major re-habitation of hostels and classrooms, improved capacity building of over 300 staff, commissioning of a water factory project for the production of Yabatech bottled water, setting up of a radio station, 89.3 FM, and the ranking of the College as the best Polytechnic in Nigeria on three occasions by Webmetirc ranking, among others.

Omokungbe noted that the College since its inception has produced graduates who are in enviable positions in all walks of life both in public and private sectors and have contributed immensely to the socio-economic and political development of the nation.

“From the engineering fields, through to Science and Technology, the built environment through to the Fields of Management and recently, in the fields of Agriculture and mass communication. These graduates of Yaba College of Technology are making significant impacts in the match towards the industrial and technological advancement of Nigeria,” he explained.

Other activities slated for the week include an inter-denominational thanksgiving service, which comes on Sunday, November 20, 2022. The Convocation Lecture slated for November 21, 2022, would be delivered by Mrs. Kafilat Araoye, MD/CEO, Lotus Bank. She would speak on “Emergence of Successful Young Entrepreneur in Current Nigerian Economy: The Place of Integrity.”

The climax of the ceremonies comes on Thursday, November 24th 2022 when the graduating students will be awarded the National and Higher Diploma of the College.

The Rector added that the Distinguished Guest of Honour at the Convocation would be the Honorable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. While other expected guests are the Chairman of the Council of the College, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) and Members of the Council, the Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education, Officials of the Federal Ministry of Education, visiting Heads of Sister Institutions, College Fellows and the Alumni Association.
