The long-awaited campus and community radio in Yaba metropolis called Yabatech Radio has finally hit the wave; this landmark move is a welcome development to Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) community and the entire Yaba resident in general.
The radio station has been a long in the making but it eventually became a reality on September 16, 2019, after going through the mandatory test transmission as specified in the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) guideline.
The NBC has scheduled two visits to the radio station, the first visit has come and gone in which the radio station got a pass mark, and the second visit will be a consolidation on the initial one which will give the station full-fledged broadcasting right without any restriction.
The signal of 89.3fm is very strong and clear to the extent that it gets to almost every part in Lagos; the listeners in Lagos state have made several calls to the station to affirm this.
Yabatech Radio will undoubtedly serve the modern necessity of keeping the people informed, will concentrate on getting into the minds of listeners and nurture it with timely information on development in all subjects of importance and general interest.
The station will also serve as a training platform for Mass Communication students in the area of the practical aspect of radio journalism.
The program of the station will be designed to suit the educated youth and the public without leaving educational program, minor politics, entertainment and music behind.
The station was very effective during the 33rd Convocation ceremony as it broadcasted the entire convocation programme live. Likewise, the station is saddled with the responsibility of broadcasting live matriculations; inaugural lectures, seminars, workshops, students’ political activities, important guests to the campus, sporting, and other social and educated programme within the campus community.
The new project is another landmark achievement of Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe’s administration.
