Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) will on Thursday, November 23, 2023 award Diplomas, Certificates and Prizes to its 7, 717 graduating students of the 2021/2022 academic session. The institution will also confer fellowship of the College on eminent and truly deserving Nigerians at its 35th Convocation Ceremonies.
The Rector of the college, Dr. Engr. Ibraheem Abdul made this known in his address while briefing the press at a pre-convocation press conference on Thursday at the college.
Abdul noted that 254 of the graduating students got distinction while 1, 893 are graduating in the Upper Credit division. “Three Thousand, Nine Hundred and Forty (3,940) students are graduating in Lower Credit and One Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty (1630) are in the Pass grade,” he added.
The Rector stated further that the College will confer fellowship awards on three outstanding Nigerians including the former first lady of Lagos State and Matriarch of the Otedola family, Lady Christine Doja Otedola; an alumnus of Yaba College of Technology, Comrade Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu and the Governor of Borno State, Engr. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum.
“In line with the tradition and mandate of the polytechnic education, fellowship awards are conferred on esteemed and exemplary Nigerians who have contributed immensely to national development, education and other sectors including those who distinguish themselves in their areas of endeavours. The justification for the conferment of the prestigious fellowship awards on these revered Nigerians centres on their respective accomplishments within and outside Nigeria,” the Rector explained.
Among other activities lined up for the event include the Convocation Lecture. The lecture titled, “Empowering Nigerian Youths in the Present Day Economy” will be delivered by the Chief of Staff to the president, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Olufemi Gbajabiamila while the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio will chair the occasion.
