The attention of high profile Nigerians including the Honourable Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, were drawn to the crude but flying Unmanned Area Vehicle (Drone) made by young Bello Muhammed at the on-going Innovations and Technology Expo, organised by the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Abuja.
Bello, a 100 Level Mechanical Engineering Student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna was among thousands of innovators present at the event to showcase their technological and scientific prowess.
He developed an interest in Aeronautic Engineering right from JS2 in secondary school, and through personal efforts studying every available material on the subject; he was able to come up with the Drone made with 90% local materials.
When asked if there was any research grant or sponsorship yet, he said, “None for now because nobody will believe my Aeronautic idea if I did not produce anything. That is why I came up with this so that people will know what I am up to.”
The Nigerian Ai Force personnel at the event and some other researchers from the University of Ilorin are already in discussion with the young innovative man. “From our discussions so far, I have learnt my mistakes and I have seen some other machines, so I will be able to develop this one,” he said.
