Adekunle Ajasin Varsity Admits 4,800 out of 20,000 Candidates

Ondo State-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko has admitted 4,800 students out of the 20,000 candidates that subscribed to the institution in the current 2018/2019 admission process.

The statistics were made known by the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr.  Olusegun Owolewa while delivering his speech at the Orientation programme organised for the new students.

The event which held on March 12 to 15, 2019 at the Olusegun Obasanjo Multipurpose Hall, witnessed a huge turnout of students.

Dr.  Owolewa said, “20,000 candidates subscribed to the University in the 2018/2019 admission exercise which only 4,800 were offered admission.”

The Dean further advised the new students to remain focused, aimed for higher grades and ensure that they justified the admission.

He also stated that the Students Affairs Unit of the University was up to the task with the support of the management and other stakeholders in the community.

Dr. Owolewa added that his Unit would organise seminars and workshops that are aimed at enhancing the ability and functionality of the students.

He also mentioned that the unit was working with other centres in the school to improve the welfare of the students.

“In order to enhance the case of being a student and to internationalise our university, the Students Affairs Division in conjunction with the Information Communication and Technology  Application Center(ICTAC) has automated and improved the most student-related operations. We have introduced e-voting platform for election, e-clearance for graduating students and online hostel registration.

Also present at the Orientation programme was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Olugbenga Ige, who urged the newly admitted students to adapt to the core values of the institution.

Prof. Ige enjoined the students to be good ambassadors of the University and always follow values in all endeavours. “Be diligent and willing to exchange courtesy among others.  If you do this, your name will be written on the good side of the institution.”

Highlights of the programme include a presentation by various groups on campus, speech delivery by other speakers.

Principal Officers of the University present include the Registrar, Dr. M. S.  Ayeerun; Dean of Education Faculty, Prof. Iyabo Omoniyi; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof.  Francis Gbore; Dean of Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Prof.  Sola Olorunfemi among others.
