CSN Holds Annual International Conference, EKO 2019

The Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), will hold its annual international conference, workshop and exhibition from September 8th to 13th, 2019.

The event will take place at the Academy Multipurpose Inn, Ogba Industrial layout, Agidingbi, Ikeja Lagos.

The President of the Society, Professor Sunday Olawale Okeniyi, told newsmen in Kaduna that this year’s conference, tagged CSN – ACRICE Eko 2019 is the 42nd edition for the CSN with the theme: “Chemistry Education and Sustainable Development”. He further said that the conference will also host the Green Teachers Chemistry Education Workshop and 4thCongress of the African Conference on Research in Chemistry Education (ACRICE).

Prof Okeniyi, in the press statement said that the CSN normally conduct annual Conference, Workshop and Exhibition for her members at various cities in Nigeria, to which eminent Chemistry scholars and technocrats are invited to present papers of national and international chemistry education importance; and that the annual conference is usually the largest annual activities of CSN and the largest gathering of Chemists in Nigeria and across the globe devoted to the science and practice of chemistry.

He further said that more than 1000 delegates from within and outside Nigeria will attend this year’s conference, where intellectual papers concerning Chemistry Education, Chemical Sciences, Chemical Security and Safety will be presented by acclaimed international speakers. A communiqué is expected to be issued at the end of the conference on national and international chemistry education prospects, chemical policies and chemical security and safety as the Society’s contribution to global existence.

The Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) was founded in 1971 to raise national consciousness on the centrality of Chemistry to the overall progress of Man and Development of Society. With over 5000 members, the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) is the major professional body representing and promoting the practice of Chemistry and all Chemists in Nigeria. A non-political and non-profit organisation, CSN is at the forefront of the evolving worldwide chemical enterprise. CSN is the premier professional home for chemists, chemical engineers and related professions. CSN seeks to, among other things, protect the professional interest of chemists as well as promote and stimulate the advancement and the propagation, study and practice of the science of chemistry and related Sciences as channels for sustainable national development in Nigeria.

The African Conference on Research in Chemistry Education (ACRICE), under the auspices of FASC, the Federation of African Societies of Chemistry, a professional body established on 23 February 2006 in Addis Ababa, with the aim of promoting the advancement of chemical sciences and the practice of chemistry that could be instrumental to the fulfillment of the development aspiration and objective of the people in Africa. ACRICE emphasises the roles of chemical education for development and, in particular, for sustainable development in Africa by offering an ideal opportunity for sharing experiences among specialists across the African continent and with specialists from other continents. All areas and levels of chemical education are considered, and the known major challenges are given specific attention. Explorations of novel approaches and novel collaborations are actively encouraged.
