UNILORIN: Most Preferred University Since 2011

By Phillips Ojumoola

The University of Ilorin has once again emerged as the top choice of Nigerian university applicants across the country, thereby retaining the position for the ninth consecutive year.

This is according to statistics retrieved from JAMB and published by www.statisense.com a Nigerian-based online data website.

The Ilorin-based institution has made a reputation for being the most sought-after university in Nigeria in recent times mainly due to its stable and quick academic calendar which has characterized it over the years.

Only two institutions, the University of Benin (2013) and the University of Lagos (2011 and 2012) have been able to unseat UNILORIN as the most sought-after university in the last decade.

In a separate discovery also according to statisense.com, the university also has an average of over 50,000 aspirants jostling for admission every year.

But in a rather shocking decision in 2019, the University’s academic staff rejoined ASUU and since then the smooth running of the academic calendar has been interrupted in the severally.

It will be interesting to know if the university will be able to retain this position in the years to come amidst the outgoing ASUU strike that has crippled university education in Nigeria for the past six months.
