Be Conscious of What You Eat – Ondo NYSC Coordinator, Ani Advises Corps Members

The Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Ondo State, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has reminded the corps members to be conscious of what they eat, noting that good food nourishes the body and enhances one’s well-being.

The State Coordinator who was represented by the Camp Director, Mr. Babawale Owolabi made the statement when she declared open the platoon cooking competition of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members.

Mrs. Ani also noted that processed and canned foods have literally turned the younger generation into lazy individuals who give flimsy excuses just to evade cooking.

“My dear children especially the females, good food draws attention and it doubles as a positive attraction to a man’s heart. No man will want to marry an ‘indomie chef’ or females who prefer eating outside”.

“Even the males should learn to cook good food so that when there are cogent reasons for your wives to go on sabbatical leave from the kitchen or she travels, you can stand in the gap and complement her”.

The NYSC Ondo State boss expressed deep-felt concern about the junk foods that are all over the place as no one is even sure of the preparation process(es).

“My children in the service to the nation, we want the best for you in life and this is why NYSC is preaching personal preparation of your meals. By so doing, you will know that the food is hygienically prepared with ingredients of your choice whereas you cannot determine the state of ingredients been used in the food you get outside which oftentimes lead to failing health”.

“Most diseases, ailments and infections that were associated with advanced ages some decades back are now prominent within the circle of our teenagers and youths, and some of these are traceable to junks you consume, all in the name of civilisation and technology”.

I am not saying that you should not give yourselves a good and deserved treat once in a while but I am confirming to you that it is safer, economical and hygienic to do the cooking yourself and this will surely assist your well-being and state of mind”.

According to her, the cooking competition is designed to give basic information and practical knowledge on how to overcome the challenges associated with the service year.

“It is a known fact that a large number of our youths visit kitchen only when they are hungry and looking for something to satisfy their appetite or just to drop the used plates in the dishwasher but NYSC in her wisdom attaches corps members to kitchen assignment on platoon basis to learn the rudiments of cooking so that they would not rely on restaurants and ‘mama put’ to fill their stomachs”.

The State Coordinator who boasts of culinary skills as one of her hobbies is cooking admonished the corps members to cultivate the healthy habit of eating good food personally and hygienically prepared.

The soft-spoken administrator lauded the engine room of the competition which are the Platoon Officers and the Social and Entertainment Committee for giving the camp community ‘an evening to remember.

The competition which presented various cuisines to the camp officials seated at the back watching the corps members preparing tasty meals had number 4 platoon as winners and followed by number 8 and 7 platoons coming second and third respectively.
