Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the report of the special visitation panel on the appointment of the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University, Ojo, will be fully implemented.
Sanwo-Olu made this known on Monday while receiving the report from the six-member panel.
The panel was chaired by former VC of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Prof. Bamitale Omole.
Recall that three weeks ago, the Lagos State Government constituted a special visitation panel to look into the issues surrounding the appointment of the 9th VC of the LASU, especially the remote and the immediate causes of the impasse into the selection process.
Sanwo-Olu explained that the outcome of the panel’s report would make the appointment of the next VC a seamless exercise.
“Let me assure you and the general public that the report of this panel will be well utilised while its recommendations will be fully implemented in the appointment of the 9th Vice-Chancellor of LASU.
“This effort is geared towards ensuring that there is equality, fairness, transparency, openness and level plane ground for all in the process of selection and to ensure that the best and the most qualified person that would drive the vision for the establishment of the University”
Special Adviser On Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab, also said he believed that the report of the panel would guide the Lagos State Government in getting the best and most qualified candidate to be appointed for the job.
“Going by the integrity and pedigree of the people Mr Governor carefully selected to constitute this panel, I have no doubt in my mind that the report of this panel will guide the State Government in getting the best and most qualified candidate to be appointed for the job.”
“The LASU vice-chancellorship special visitation panel as constituted by Mr Governor still remains the best panel ever to be constituted by any government in history when the pedigree, industry and high academic profiles of members of this panel are considered.”
While presenting the report, Omole said, “Without a scintilla of equivocation in our findings, observations and recommendations are based on the memoranda submitted to us, the face-to-face interactions and interviews that we had with many of the people who held an opposing and disparate position on the matter of the appointment of the 9th VC.”
Other members of the panel include former VC of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, Professorial chair, Oba Sikiru Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Prof. Ayo Olukotun, former Lagos Solicitor-General, Mr. Lawal Pedro, former registrar of University of Ibadan, Mr Olujimi Olukoya, and a Director on Grade Level 17 in Lagos public service, Mrs Funmilola Olajide.
